Another bea-u-tiful spring-like sunny day means yet another load of washing is drying on the line. Sadly, this has led to teetering piles of ironing in the ironing basket. I'd much rather be blocking and sewing in the ends on my now-finished wrap, or choosing and sewing on some brightly-coloured buttons to jazz up a new, but rather plain, navy blue top. Instead, I've set up the ironing board in the dining room, in a nice pool of sunlight, and am diligently ironing my way through what seems to be every item of clothing we possess - and then some.
To keep me company, and to take my mind of the tedium of the task, I'm playing my way - yet again - through my new 'favourite album of all time' (they do change quite frequently.) This time it's 'The Essential Leonard Cohen'. I treated myself to this double CD just before Christmas as I was totally obsessed with the song 'Hallelujah' and didn't want to hear Alexandra Burke's yodelling-type version all the time. I thought I knew good old Len quite well - having been a keen listener of his songs in the early eighties - but it turns out I'd been missing a huge chunk of his more recent songs - things like 'Democracy', 'Who By Fire', A Thousand Kisses Deep' and the rather catchy Shania-Twain sound-a-like 'Closing Time'. I'm amusing myself by warbling along very tunelessly to as many of the complicated lyrics as I can. I'm sure I sound dreadful, but whatever gets me through the ironing pile is fine by me - I just hope the neighbours can't hear me.
Do you have any suggestions for 'songs to iron by?'
Ahh..Leonard Cohen. What woman with a beating heart could not love him.
He was over here in NZ a couple of weeks ago but way up in the North Island so I didn't get to see him. I had seen him twice before though, way back in 78 at Portsmouth Town Hall and again in the early 80s at the Brighton Dome. Happy memories.
As for more music to iron by I think you have to match the music to the fabric and the iron setting!

I so agreed with you about the Alexandra Burke version of Hallelujah. The version I have is by K.D.Lang as I really love her voice. I am now going to Amazon downloads to listen to the Leonard Cohen version.
You remember me saying how your cotton cloths inspired me to get on with 'spring' cleaning recently - well this post has inspired me to get interested in the ironing today. What about the hoovering inspiration I requested!!

On the subject of Leonard Cohen, if you're not aware of the Jennifer Warnes' "Famous Blue Raincoat" you might like to check it out.
I'm also a bit addicted to this version of "Lover Lover": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rCvJM3qmMa8

You have my greatest sympathy - I loathe ironing with a passion!
Unless it's fabric of course.
But that doesn't count!

I hate ironing & Leonard makes me suicidal, so by the time I'd finished, there would be no hope for me
