My Mum gave me some gorgeous chunky Rowan wool for my 50th birthday in 2010, with the idea that I could make myself a really posh patchwork knitted blanket with it. Yesterday, I FINALLY finished it.
I have absolutely no idea why it has taken me over 18 months to complete this project as the wool was beautiful to knit with and lovely and chunky so each square knitted up very quickly. In fact, thinking about it, it wasn't the actual knitting that took the time - it was the sewing it all together. I think I completed the knitting about a year ago, and I started sewing it all together this autumn, but it took the cold snap last weekend to finally galvanise me to finish it. It is super warm and very cosy to drape over my lap in the evenings. It's a good size too - it's shown here draped over the two-seater settee. Thank you, Mum, for the beautiful wool - hope you like how it finally turned out.
Dear Liz,
It is beautiful and will be so cosy.
You are so talented with all the things you make and the Christmas gifts you made for the family will be loved and appreciated for many years.
In my opinion handmade is best.
Love from Mum.

Your mum is right. It's one stunning blanket, Elizabeth.
I'm knitting a patchwork blanket too. Nowhere near finishing it. It's taking me an age. I was thinking of crocheting the squares together. Not sure if that would work.

Beautiful, the colours go so well together. I love knitting, but not the sewing up part too.
