Friday in our little town is market day (as is Saturday but I rarely venture into the High Street at the weekend). I needed a few large tomatoes to make a pasta sauce for this evening's meal so, for the first time in ages, ventured into the market where I know there are a couple of excellent fruit and veg stalls. The tomatoes were duly purchased and, as it was yet again a beautiful warm sunny morning and I was in no particular hurry, I had a nice stroll around the stalls. I don't know if it was because the weather was so glorious, or if it is because of the run-up to Christmas, but the market was busier and with more stalls than I have seen it in ages. One chap in particular had some really good bargains. This charming peg bag was 40p.
And is just the sort of thing I have been looking around for. It's made of a lovely natural-coloured cotton with these three colourful pegs screen-printed on the front. Now that the garden table has been tucked away in the shed for the winter, it is much easier for me to keep my pegs in something which I can hang from the line rather than in a small plastic basket which would need to stand on the muddy grass while I used the pegs.
This particular stallholder often has box-loads of ex-British Airways items for sale - blankets, cutlery, linen napkins etc etc. This week he had a huge amount of Molton Brown toiletries at excellent prices.
The Coco de Mer face creams were £1 for all three, and the lip salve was also £1. I'm pretty sure these have come from BA business and first-class wash bags (P sometimes brings them back for me when he has been on a business trip), but I was mighty pleased to find them as I needed some more moisturiser and lip balm anyway.
Other bargains this week have been some rather nice yarn from the local charity shop.
A gorgeous cherry-red ball of Rowan handknit cotton, and a grey skein of pure wool Patons Moorland double knitting. Both items were 25p each. I can see the Rowan cotton as a couple of nice cotton facecloths as it's such a rich festive colour. And I think the grey Patons wool would make a nice beanie, especially trimmed with a bright-red felt applique.
Another fantastic item which I got this week is my new monitor.
Sadly, it was not a bargain but it is twenty inches of full-colour, flat-screen gorgeousness.
The weather is so lovely isn't it, I might even get to a boot sale on Sunday..in November! The peg bag is nice, I must make myself one someday, after seeing the ones in Cath Kidston's catalogue I'm inspired.
I've still got large pc monitors, they look so bulky compared to the sleek flat screens on sale. But they work perfectly well so no plans to replace them.

The wool is lovely - think you are right to use the red as some facecloths. No wonder no one wants to buy my peg bags when you can find cuties like this for 40p!
