I finished off a couple of items over the bank holiday weekend.
First up was the set of four napkins which I'd had for years and never used - feeling they were just too bland. They're looking much ritzier with the addition of some embroidery.
It didn't take all that long really to do the embroidery, although this project seems to have been hanging around for ages. I just did one item of cutlery at a time, as and when the mood took me. I'm pleased with how these have turned out, but think I'll be keeping them for 'best' as there was just a tad too much work involved to be using them every day.
I also finished off my hairband.
I decided against adding any buttons to it as decoration, figuring that as it's to be used first thing in the morning when I wash my face I could end up smacking myself in the eye if there's a heavy button sewn on. I gave it its first try-out this morning and was well pleased with how it held my hair back.
With the glorious weather carrying on apace, I've spent another chunk of time in the garden this afternoon. This time chopping up the large pile of cuttings from yesterday and dropping them into 'ye olde green wheelie bin'. It was full to bursting yesterday so I had to wait until it had been emptied today before I could add anything else. Now it's pretty full once again and I'm intending to cut the grass tomorrow, which will mean no more gardening for another 13 days when it will be emptied again. Somehow I don't think I've quite got into the correct rhythm with the green wheelie bin - at the moment I could do with about half a dozen of them each fortnight to hold all the garden waste I'm creating. This is what comes of not really doing anything to the garden for three years (apart from cutting the grass) because you can't be a*sed to ram everything into a carrier-bag-sized soya sack!! To say our garden is a touch overgrown would be to not put too fine a point on it, in places it is quite jungle-like. But not for much longer!!
I'll be announcing the winner of the tea cosy tomorrow. If anyone else wants to add their name to the draw, just leave a comment on the 'One Year Today' post from last Wednesday.
what a great idea for knitting--a headband! as a very, very new beginner to knitting (and honestly to all things crafty, being still more of an admirer than a doer)i think i might be able to pull off something like this!
