After the most lovely 10 days with my family in Bristol (the only slight downside being that I carted my pillowcase bags all the way there only to find the local art shop, which I hoped might be interested in stocking them, was closed for renovations - b*gger), it was back home to Essex yesterday and back to real life today.
The weather is of the 'phew, what a scorcher!' type, 26 degrees and sunny which meant that for the first time this year we had our evening meal al fresco yesterday, the plum trees are virtually groaning under the weight of all the mini plums growing on them and I've just hung out the second lot of washing of the day (the first lot having been dried to a crisp in less than four hours).
I had to go shopping this morning and what with all the sun and the phenomenal growth of everything - especially the weeds - in the garden, I bought a couple of geraniums to brighten up the wall outside the dining room. I've also got plans to plant some lettuce seeds in a couple of really wide but shallow pots too but today is just too darn hot to bother with that. I'll wait 'til tomorrow when the temperatures will be considerably cooler. I was hoping to sit out in the garden this afternoon and do a little bit of knitting, but it's so tropical out there that if I don't make the effort to fetch the parasol out of the shed then it won't just be the washing that'll be done to a crisp.
